Word of Faith, Name It-Claim It, Prosperity Gospel, The Doctrine of Demons

A List of Prosperity Gospel Heretics and False Teachers

"Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron..." (1 Timothy 4:1-2)"You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons." (1 Corinthians 10:21)"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 Peter 4:1)
'IF YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM GOD, READ YOUR BIBLE; If you want to AUDIBLY HEAR from God, READ YOUR BIBLE OUT LOUD.' - Justin Peters (A Call For Discernment Seminar)

Prosperity Gospel (Name-it, Claim-it, Word-Of-Faith, Health and Wealth...)

The Prosperity Gospel, (also known as Name-it Claim it, Word of Faith, Seed Faith, Health and Wealth and Gospel of Success) is an umbrella term for a group of ideas. It is a belief among some "Christians" that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for them, and that demonstrations of faith, positive speech, speaking benefits into one's life ('word of faith' or 'name it and claim it') and planting seeds of faith will increase their material wealth. Material, tangible and especially financial success is seen as a sign of divine favour.
These teachings are heretical, blasphemous and contrary to orthodox Biblical Christian teachings. (See Bible verses regarding this at the bottom)
Word of Faith teaching holds that God wants his people to prosper in all areas of life, including finances, health, marriage, and relationships. It teaches that God's blessing empowers his people to achieve the Bible's promises. Thus, suffering does not come from God, but from Satan. The WoF movement believes in a "force of faith." It believes that words can be used to manipulate the faith-force, and thus actually create what they believe Scripture promises (health and wealth). One has but to claim them (or proclaim them) and the laws supposedly governing the faith-force are said to operate independently of God’s sovereign will and that God Himself is subject to these laws. This is nothing short of idolatry, turning our faith - and by extension ourselves - into a god. So ‘claiming’ spiritual healing, or that car, or the spouse of one's dreams, or riches, or mostly ‘prosperity’, or whatever, is heresy.Nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to ‘claim’ anything, rather, the Bible teaches us to ‘ask’ and ‘pray’ with humility and earnestness. The word pray means to ask earnestly and/or humbly. (Matthew 7:7, John 16:24, John 16:26, etc.)These teachings are heretical, blasphemous and contrary to orthodox Biblical Christian teachings. (See Bible verses at the bottom)

New Age Movement (New Ageism, New Age Thinking)

New Ageism is not in itself a religion, more like a set of beliefs, all of which are contrary to Christianity, orthodox Biblical Christian teachings and an affront to God.New Age thinking is prevalent in Hollywood and the movie industry, and is actively promoted by most of its actors and actresses. Reincarnation, karma, cosmic consciousness (the all-knowing one), the 'good force' overcoming the 'evil force' (e.g. 'Star Wars'), super-heroes, superhumans (e.g. the 'MCU')... One has but to look for the signs and they become obvious.Based on Buddhism, Hinduism and Taoism_ and heavily rooted in, and inspired by Eastern mysticism, psychology, psychotherapy and to a great degree, paganism, spiritualism, clairvoyance, tarot, the occult and occultism and magic, New Ageism has found its way into the church in a variety of ways including belief in psychics, reincarnation and in astrology, not to mention self-love and self-actualization ideology.
Other ways that New Age has crept, and can creep into a Christian's life is through practices such as Yoga, transcendental meditation and herbal/herbalistic/naturopathic remedies (Note: It's not the remedies that are wrong but how they are sourced and used). Discernment is clearly called for.
Some examples of New Age teachings include;
Follow your heart/Trust in yourself" - Jeremiah 17:9 'The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.'_
"Law of Attraction" - Believe, imagine, or visualize what you want from God and He will make it true for you
"Oneness" - We can become one with God by being sinless
"Universalism" - All roads lead to God
"Pantheism" - The view that the only way God can know everything is if He is everything.
"Contemplative Prayer" - A type of mystical meditation leading the mind into an altered state of consciousness. All these teachings are contrary to the Bible and additionally, the Bible is unequivocal in condemning the use of clairvoyants, psychics, horoscopes, tarot cards, or any other aspect of the occult and these practices are detestable and an abomination to God. (Deuteronomy 18:9-14)

New Apostolic Reformation

The New Apostolic Reformation movement claims that the lost office of 'apostle' has been fully restored and should be acknowledged by today's Church. It is a massively negative addendum to the Charismatic Movement. The NAR is patently and blatantly un-Biblical and emphasizes experience over Scripture, mysticism over doctrine, and modern-day 'apostles' over the plain text of the Bible. Of particular distinction in the New Apostolic Reformation are the role and power of spiritual leaders and miracle-workers, the reception of “new” revelations from God, an over-emphasis on spiritual warfare, and a pursuit of cultural and political control. The office of apostle requires traits that are impossible today. For example, true apostles must be personal eyewitnesses of the risen Christ (1 Corinthians 9:1; 15:7–8), specifically designated as apostles by Jesus (Galatians 1:1; Acts 1:2; Luke 6:13), and already verified by miraculous signs (Matthew 10:1; 2 Corinthians 12:2; Acts 5:12).So too, the office of the modern prophet.
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son..." (Hebrews 1:1)
Modern prophecy is driven by a love of money and self-ambition. Jesus, knowing this about the Pharisees, said, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God. The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it." (Luke 16:15-16) See also 1 John 4:1, 2 Peter 2, Deuteronomy 13:1-4, Deuteronomy 18:21-22 and Micah 3:11)For God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

List of false teachers, false prophets and promoters of heresies

“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11)“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” (2 Cor 11:13-15)8Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit...and not according to Christ... 18Let no one cheat you of your reward...vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head...” (Col 2:8,18-19)"7For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist... 10If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds." (2 John 1:7,10-11)"For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." (Matthew 24:24)"1...there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2And many will follow their destructive ways, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; ... 22Of them the proverbs are true: ‘A dog returns to its vomit,’ and, ‘A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.’" (2 Peter 2:1-3,22)"9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and with all unrighteous deception... 11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12)------------------------------------------------

Special mentions: This is just a small selection...
Islam - Fun- Not-so-Fun fact: According to Islamic eschatology, at the end of time will come a man; the Mahdi, also known as the 12th Imam. He will ride in on a white horse, with a massive army carrying black flags bearing one word - PUNISHMENT. He will go from nation to nation, starting with Israel and slaughter all the Jews, those who do not believe in or convert to Islam or worship Allah. He will establish Islam as the world's only true religion on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. He will perform great signs and wonders and all will love him and worship him. Huh!... Antichrist I mean, Revelation 6:2 much?
Mormonism (aka Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS, for short) believes in the heretical teachings of John Smith. He claimed that he received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ (Articles of Faith, p. 35) who told him that all churches and their creeds were an abomination. Mormonism contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Mormons believe that God attained the status of Supreme Being by righteous living and persistent effort, He has a “body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s(Doctrine and Covenants 130:22) and Brigham Young taught that Adam was actually God and the father of Jesus Christ. (Erm, see John 4:24)According to LDS President, Gordon B. Hinckley, "As a church, we have critics -many of them. They say we do not believe in the traditional Christ of Christianity. There is some substance in what they say. Our faith, our knowledge, is not based on ancient tradition... [it] comes of the witness of a prophet in this dispensation..."(April 2002, General Conference)Roman Catholic Church - Pope Francis (All Popes, really) is a False Teacher and Catholicism is a works-based religion that believes in the continual sacrifice of Christ, promotes idolatry, is heretical and patently and utterly unbiblical.According to Roman Catholicism, authoritative revelation from God consists of two tightly connected streams, Scripture and Tradition and the only authoritative source of interpretation of Scripture is The Magisterium, consisting of the pope and the bishops.Roman Catholic theology presents the immaculate conception of Mary. That at her conception, she “was preserved immune from all stain of original sin” (Pius IX, Ineffabilis Deus, Dec 8 1854) and her sinlessness was manifested by her perpetual virginity; she remained a virgin her whole life. So, how were James, Joseph, Simon, Judas, and their sisters, all Jesus' brothers and sisters conceived? Matthew 13:55-56 and Acts 1:14The RCC believes that _the Pope is Christ's representative on earth, Baptism confers grace through consecrated water, which cleanses people from original sin, Confirmation bestows grace through consecrated oil and the laying on of a bishop’s hands, conferring the fullness of the Holy Spirit and that The Eucharist, which is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1324) gives grace through bread and wine, a process known as transubstantiation. Wow!

Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) believe that Jesus Christ is God’s agent (as Archangel Michael), through whom sinful humans can be reconciled to God and the Holy Spirit is the name of God’s active force in the world. They believe that when Jesus was born on earth, he was a mere human and not God in human flesh. All this denies Jesus' and the Holy Spirit's deity. The New World Translation (NWT) of the Bible is Jehovah's Witnesses own translation, no other religious group uses this Bible and Jehovah's Witnesses make very little use of other Bibles.Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) profess to teach salvation by grace through faith, but they redefine this to add works to grace. Faith and works are said to be the two oars by which the believer is propelled to glory. SDA'ism says that the sabbath was given to Adam in the Garden of Eden (Nehemiah 9:13-14, Exodus 31:13-17) and that God intended for all men to keep it. They further say that Jesus and the apostles kept the sabbath and that it is binding upon all Christians. Further, SDAs believe that Ellen White was a prophetess; "The Ellen White books have been likened also to a telescope which greatly enlarges the vision of God’s plans as revealed in His word." (Ellen G. White and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, p. 34; - In countering this, however, see Deuteronomy 18:18-22)Two verses disprove SDA doctrine in totality: Romans 3:20, and Galatians 2:16 and also, see what Revelation 22:18-19, Deuteronomy 4:2 and Proverbs 30:5-6 say about adding or deducting from God's words...Church of Scientology - No more needs to be said...Christian Science Church/Movement - Major proponents of word of faith, prosperity gospel, health and wealth, identification and ‘revelation knowledge’ recycle, in one form or another, the teachings of Kenneth Hagin, commonly regarded as the founder of the Faith Movement. Research has shown conclusively that Hagin ‘copied extensively’ from the writings of E. W. Kenyon and Kenyon admitted he had freely used ideas from Mary Baker-Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. See HERE and HERE.For Christian Scientists, the ultimate textual authority is not the Bible but MBE's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In that book, MBE says that “Christian Science is unerring and Divine” while the Bible has been corrupted and contains “manifest mistakes.”According to Christian Scientists, “Jesus is the human man, and Christ is the divine idea; hence the duality of Jesus the Christ.” The invisible Christ (“the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science”) became perceptible in the visible Jesus, who was a mere man and demonstrated the divine idea.Christian Scientists deny the Trinity and replace the person of the Holy Spirit with ‘divine Science.’
MBE outlines her version of the triune God:
"Life, Truth, and Love constitute the triune Person called God,—that is, the triply divine Principle, Love. Divine trinity They represent a trinity in unity, three in one,—the same in essence, though multiform in office: God the Father-Mother; Christ the spiritual idea of sonship; divine Science or the Holy Comforter. These three express in divine Science the threefold, essential nature of the infinite."

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless -not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” (Titus 1:7-9)"I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who...want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6-13)"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world." (1 John 4:1-6)"Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple." (Romans 16:17-18)"God, who made the world and everything in it,...does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things...28for in Him we live and move and have our being 29...we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. 30Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." (Acts 17:24-25,28-31)"15Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16You will know them by their fruits...18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Therefore by their fruits you will know them.... 22Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" (Matthew 7:15-23, abridged)"'3...What will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?' 4And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 10And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:3-5,10-14)"11And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ..." (Ephesians 4:11-15)"10There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13You shall be blameless before the Lord your God." (Deuteronomy 18:10-13)"18'I will raise up for them a Prophet...and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him...' 20'...the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.' 21...'How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?'- 22'When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.'" (Deuteronomy 18:18-22)2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist..." (2 Timothy 4:2-5)3If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. 6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."
